Where is Lower Sabie Rest Camp located?

Lower Sabie is situated on the southern bank of the Sabie River, in the southern region of Kruger National Park, South Africa

Which park gate is closest to Lower Sabie?

The closest is Crocodile Bridge Gate, about 35 km south of the camp

What accommodation types are available?

  • Rustic huts (1–4 beds, communal kitchens and ablutions)

Yes, there are 33 powered tent/caravan sites (max 6 persons) with communal ablutions and kitchens, including 24-hour boiling water and hotplates

  • Swimming pool

  • Petrol station, post box, information desk

  • Cellphone reception and limited DSTV in select units

  • Day visitor picnic area with time-limited swimming access

What activities are available?

  • Ranger-led bush walks, morning and sunset game drives

  • Bush breakfasts and bush braais (reserve in advance)

  • Scenic self-drive routes including the popular H4‑1 Sabie River Road toward Skukuza (~43 km, about 2.5 hours) 


What about park entry and late arrivals?

Entry to Kruger is billed at the gate, even for camp guests. Late entrance is not permitted after park closing hours; SANParks does not allow un-booked after-hours arrivals at camps like Lower Sabie 



Can I safely camp with just a tent?

Yes, camps are fenced and nightly wildlife remains outside. Still, travelers advise locking valuables securely and using proper pegs due to hard, compact ground 

When is the best time to visit Kruger?

Dry season (May–September) offers excellent wildlife visibility; November–April brings rains which can close gravel roads, impacting self-drive access especially along H4‑1
